The Whitewater Ski Team (WWST) is a ski racing club based out of Whitewater Ski Resort in Nelson, B.C. dedicated to building life-long skiers in a positive, fun, and supportive learning environment. The team’s goal is to instill passion in young skiers, develop excellent skiing skills in all terrain and conditions, as well as building self-confidence, respect for the mountains, and respect for their peers. Most importantly, we want to help our members take these skills beyond the mountain to excel in life.

The WWST was incorporated as a non-profit society in 1990 and is managed by a volunteer board of directors. Coaches are paid staff, as is a part time bookkeeper, but all other aspects of the club are run by parent volunteers. The team averages approximately 100 athletes primarily between 5 and 15 years of age has included athletes ranging from 4 to 78! WWST also hosts annual events at Whitewater which bring in families to the Nelson area from across the East and West Kootenay.

Approximately 40% of the team’s annual budget is realized through a combination of fundraising and grants, with the remainder primarily from registration fees. This high degree of local financial support allows the club to keep fees low and remain accessible to as many youth as possible.

WWST offers a Corporate Sponsorship Program to local businesses. The intent of the program is to build a mutually beneficial partnership between the team and local business to assist with WWST costs associated with team growth, maintenance and upgrades of equipment, and coaching. In exchange, WWST recognition of corporate support will increase exposure for the business and show their community engagement to potential customers.
