Shredders Program, Nancy Greene Ski League

Nancy Greene Oso 2018

The 2020/21 season proved how even during a global pandemic the Whitewater Ski Team can provide a quality program for young skiers that want to ski their best all over the mountain, whether working on using their edges on groomed runs or skiing powder in the trees!  While no regional events were possible last season, we were impressed with how the stoke remained high with the skiers and coaches all year. We were able to discover new training environments and really focus on the fun of developing strong, well rounded skiers! We really appreciated everyone’s patience and understanding, and willingness to work with the program changes and restrictions we had in place which were based on meeting provincial return to sport guidelines as well as Whitewater Ski Resort policies.

In 2021/2022 we are cautiously optimistic and hoping to see a return to regional events, but also understand that guidance from our provincial sport organization, BC Alpine  (https://bcalpine.com/news/) , in accordance with the viaSport BC (https://www.viasport.ca/return-sport) may change depending on updates from the Provincial Health Officer.  We are ready to adapt to any changes that may be required, and with the experience of last year behind us we are confident we can make the most of the season regardless of what is thrown at us!

Programming for 2021/2022 will return to more traditional scheduling in comparison with last year.  Maintaining a fun and engaging ski race program during a global pandemic is not an easy thing to do, but something the Whitewater Ski Team believes is important and is working hard to provide!  We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding, and willingness to work with programming restrictions we will have in place based on meeting provincial return to sport guidelines as well as Whitewater Ski Resort policies.

U6/U8 Shredders

Half Day – Ages 5 to 7 Years (birth year 2014-2016)

“Ski racing for the fun of it!” is the slogan for the Nancy Greene Ski League and describes the goal of the Shredders program. Through games and activities, young skiers develop confidence and skills with ski-buddies. Groups generally consist of 6-8 skiers per professional certified coach and one parent volunteering each week as a tail-gunner. U6 and U8 skiers and their families will be introduced to the thrill of racing at other local mountains in the West Kootenay (COVID-19 restrictions permitting). The races on this exciting little circuit are free! The racers participate in the race as part of a team and are not ranked individually. This is a friendly, non-competitive introduction to alpine ski racing. Everyone wins!

All skiers must wear a helmet with “hard” ear covering. No other specialized equipment is required. All parents are expected to volunteer during the season with fundraising initiatives in addition to events such as races hosted by the Whitewater Ski Team.

Program runs Saturdays. Morning session 9:45-12:15 or Afternoon session 12:45-3:15. We will do our best to accommodate your preference for am or pm but can offer no guarantee.

Program fees, early bird pricing: $385 + $84.80 BC Alpine fee.
