Hi ski racing families!

Shredders Race Schedule:

It is a very challenging season for our skiing friends at lower elevations.

Currently Salmo is not operating and has cancelled their Feb 1 race.

Red is working on a new Feb date and will update next week.

Summit and Phoenix are operating but Phoenix needs more snow to host their Feb 22nd race.

Hopefully we get some snow down low following this dry weather!

Amazing Snow Conditions:

  • The snow conditions at the hill are amazing right now. The firm grooming with a high moisture content (ice) is a rare opportunity for ski race training.
  • These conditions are the MOST CHALLENGING which means that they demand a higher level of technical skiing ability. This means that it is a really good time to learn new skills and apply them!
  • Ski racing is an EDGING sport more than a GLIDING sport and sharp edges are a must for all ages of ski racer! Make sure to sharpen skis going into the weekend so that when coaches ask the kiddos to apply new skills, the ski edges will support them (rather than slide out) and they can build TRUST on the ski.
  • Ski racing uses a clock to see who can get down the hill the most efficiently (least amount of drifting/most amount of carving). So lets embrace this hard surface and celebrate it!
  • For parents that would like to try to learn the skills that the kids are learning look below for the parent sessions info.

Race Season for our Provincial Program!

U12:

  • 10 U12’s travelled to their First race of the season at Panorama last weekend!
  • A VERY tough race with a very icy surface.
  • I am super proud of this group for: Feeling a sense of failure and instead of giving up, Finding the GRIT and courage to continue trying, Putting in effort, Making small improvements- DEVELOPMENT with every run, Finding the FUN even when there is huge challenge.
  • Each of these athletes became more confident on the icy surface and are back home and highly motivated to build the skills needed to carve on ice!

U14:

  • Also a tough race at Panorama- our first Kootenay Zone Race and the BC Games Qualifier for U14.
  • The U14 group supported each other COMMUNITY and showed GRIT and found the FUN each day!
  • Each athlete had individual specific goals that were in their control and they all made progress in working towards these goals.
  • Amasra (Masi) Comazzetto was our one athlete that qualified for BC Games! She will represent our team and zone in March at the BC Games!
