Oct 2023 Newsletter (#10)

Hi Ski Racing families!

Welcome to the 2024 ski season with the Whitewater Ski Team from your Program Director, Dylan Henderson! I am really looking forward to the season and seeing our skiing community together again!

Respect Development Grit Community Fun! Lets live into these values and set some intention for the season and make this the best ski season ever!

We will post these updates -and links to sign up pages etc- on the ski team website Parent Corner (under info) https://whitewaterskiteam.ca/parent-corner/. Please create a login for this and visit regularly. (a separate login than your registration login)

Shredders U8-U14: We have lots of returning coaches and a few new ones! Registration has been going great and we still have spots for shredders of all ages! Pass this on to your family’s ski community! I always say that ski racing is the best way to build the skiing fundamentals whether you want to go the Freeski route or just want to be a lifelong skier. We balance steep skiing in all conditions, learning drills and skills on groomers, and gate training. All while sharing our passion for the mountains and our ski community!

Dryland update:U12/U14 Provincial dryland started in October outside at Lakeside park and has been a huge success! We have had as many as 20 athletes participating, including U16 and FIS aged athletes that have been incredible mentors and have been helping to set the bar high for athletic performance. Other U16 and up athletes are welcome to join us Tuesday and Thursdays 3:30-5:00 at Lakeside, inside at St Joes school starting Nov 7.

We have a new conditioning coach on the team! Tammy Kovaluk who has worked all over the US and Canada working with athletes of all ages and abilities. She is working with me to improve our conditioning program to increase athlete performance and help with athlete injury prevention. Oh, and to increase the fun factor as well!!The group is doing lots of 1 minute planks and up to a 3 minute wall sit. I challenge all parents to match us!

See below for some recent Dryland photos. And if you need some extra stoke, here is a link to the 2023 Year End Video

Thank you to all of the volunteers that do all the work to make this team possible! You are all part of an incredible ski community.
